Mercury is the smallest and closest planet to the Sun in our solar system. It is a rocky, terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere composed mostly of oxygen, sodium, and hydrogen.
Due to its proximity to the Sun, Mercury has a relatively short orbital period of about 88 Earth days. It lacks a significant atmosphere, which contributes to its inability to retain heat, resulting in stark temperature differences between day and night.
